Underground (1995) – Emir Kusturica directs this vile and profane film. It is stupid and self-absorbed art-house junk attempting to be a profound tale. It is set during the history of Yugoslavia from WWII to the Yugoslavian wars of the 90s.
Its silly and absurd, perfect fodder for film elitists to pat each other on the back as they try to speak intellectually about clownish cinema parading as something important or sublime. I should have known by the Cannes Film Festival award.
The accolades ring hollow, like art critics gushing eloquent over some Jackson Pollock mess or Mark Rothko fraud. Cinematic junk, very little redeemable, lowest common denominator stuff, no love of goodness, beauty or order, simply terrible.
